Publishing and Advancing Research

This year’s fall conference will take at the RIT Conference Center in West Henrietta, NY. Speakers will focus on a number of topics related to publishing in an academic library environment including the how to advance the research agenda,tips on submitting manuscripts and a primer on writing book reviews.

Call for Posters

The Western New York/Ontario chapter of the Association of College and Research Libraries invites poster session proposals for our 2013 Fall Conference. This year’s theme is “Publishing and Advancing Research,” and the conference will be held Friday, Oct. 18th, from 8:30am-4:00pm at the RIT Conference Center in West Henrietta, New York. Poster presenters will receive a discounted conference registration rate of $60.

Poster sessions provide opportunities to share new and innovative ideas, strategies and technologies. Any topic, demonstration or device that may be of interest to college and research librarians is welcome for presentation. We ask, however, that this venue not be used to promote or sell specific products and services. More information on the conference can be found here: http://wnyoacrl.org/conference.

Proposals for the posters and any questions regarding the poster session should be submitted to Vice Programs Chair Amy Vilz at amyvilz@buffalo.edu. The deadline for proposal submission is September 16, 2013. Presenters will be notified of acceptance by September 23.

Karen Bordonaro, Liaison Librarian at Brock University has recently published a book entitled “Internationalization and the North American University Library”. The book which is published by Scarecrow Press looks at internationalization and how North American librarians and their international patrons experience this phenomenon in higher education. Introducing Michael Ridley

“Michael Ridley is the former Chief Information Officer (CIO) and Chief Librarian at the University of Guelph. Currently he is on sabbatical completing an Master of Education degree, teaching in a variety of programs, and writing about literacy, libraries and information technology. His “book-like-thing” about the future of literacy was published in October 2012 at www.BeyondLiteracy.com. He will be returning to Guelph in 2014 in an as yet to be determined capacity. Welcome Samantha Gust!

Samantha Gust published her first review for a library science publication in 1997 and has since reviewed 100+ books and films for various titles, including Library Journal and Reference & User Services Quarterly. She has been the Reviews Section Editor for Journal of Library Innovation since its inception in 2008 and is Head of Acquisitions at Niagara University Library.

Hello Chris Hollister!

Chris is an Associate Librarian with the University at Buffalo Libraries and he is an Adjunct Instructor for the University’s Department of Library and Information Studies. His scholarly publications include Handbook of Academic Writing for Librarians (ACRL, 2013), Best Practices for Credit-Bearing Information Literacy Courses (ACRL, 2010), and numerous refereed journal articles. Chris is also Co-Founder and Co-Editor of the open access journal, Communications in Information Literacy, for which he was awarded the ACRL Instruction Section’s Special Certificate of Recognition and Achievement in 2009.
